2018-01-16 06:00

Muizenberg police said farewell to their leader when Muizenberg Police Station commander Colonel Ismail Daniels retired from service at the end of last year.

Daniels was appointed station commander at Muizenberg Police Station in November 2014.

Daniels, who had a career spanning more than 40 years, joined the police in June 1977. He served as a constable until 1982 when he was promoted to the rank of sergeant. Daniels then climbed the ranks and became a warrant officer in 1994, a captain in 1997, a lieutenant colonel in 2001 and a colonel in 2005.

Daniels started his career at Fish Hoek Police Station and also worked at Ocean View Police Station as a station commander. Daniels was also employed at the South African Police Services Inspectorate in Mpumalanga as well as the Western Cape.

He acted as station commander at various police stations throughout the Western Cape and was awarded the 75th Anniversary Commemorative Medal for faithful service of 10, 20 and 30 years. He also received the Soccer World Cup 2010 Medal and the Centenary Medal in 2013.

Daniels, who always served with pride and passion, says he is looking forward to his retirement, but will miss the service. He will especially miss the camaraderie amongst officers. He has always believed that serving his community is one of the highest callings for anyone and that crime can be overcome if partnerships are formed and maintained between the community and local police stations.

Daniels also has a special message for the youth, whom he asks to remain positive and avoid getting involved in criminal activities, as they are the future of our country. He thanks the community for their support during his tenure as station commander of Muizenberg Police Station.

Brigadier Mzwandile Gqabi from Diep River Police Station will take up the post of acting station commander at Muizenberg Police Station.
