Hout Bay Community Policing Forum (CPF) hosted a certificate ceremony at Hout Bay Police Station on Saturday 17 February. Hout Bay Neighbourhood Watch (HBNW) distributed certificates to acknowledge the patrollers who successfully completed their training last year.

About 66 patrollers, mainly from the communities of Imizamo Yethu in Hout Bay and Hangberg, attended the event. HBNW, in collaboration with the Western Cape Department of Community Safety (Docs), enabled the delivery of nine courses during 2017 to cover Basic Neighbourhood Watch Training for two days, Basic First Aid for two days and Basic Fire Fighting for one day.

A total of 188 community patrollers successfully completed all or selected courses.

During 2017, HBNW also partnered with Hout Bay Volunteer Emergency Medical Services (HBVEMS) to deliver the lifesaving Emergency First Aid Training programme to community patrollers across Hout Bay. This course teaches valuable first aid skills and allows the volunteers to integrate their reports on the scene with existing emergency services and thus provide a more holistic response to a medical emergency, which could prove the difference between life and death.
