Six Mitchell’s Plain men were arrested in Table View on Wednesday with a backpack filled with tik with an estimated street value of R600 000.

The men were caught during a routine patrol in Raats Drive when Constables Darion Murphy and Claudia Martin spotted a vehicle with blue lights.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Adriana Chandler says these lights are illegal and the occupants were behaving suspiciously.

Officers instructed the driver to pull over and approached the vehicle with caution.

“Murphy approached the driver and asked him to get out of the vehicle so that he could inform him the lights are illegal. The officer noticed that the other five men inside the vehicle appeared restless and he instructed them to get out of the vehicle with their hands away from their bodies.”

Martin kept an eye on the men and Murphy searched the vehicle and discovered large quantities of what appeared to be tik inside a backpack. The men were immediately arrested.

All six suspects reside in Mitchell’s Plain and aged between 25 and 44 years. The crystal meth weighed 3.2kg and has an approximate street value of R600 000.

The vehicle was impounded and the drugs were handed in as evidence.

Milnerton cluster commander Brigadier Aneeqah Jordaan said she was excited about the arrests and sayd Table View police have made several successful arrests in the past week.
