A local production house, Bridgetown Theatre Company (BTC) has been tasked with the responsibility of supplying extras for the Melody drama series that will be filmed in Athlone.

BTC held auditions on Saturday 13 April at Bridgetown Community Centre.

According to a statement, the initiative is aimed to help with skills development in the film industry, talent discovery, exposure to the artist, job creation, with inclusive participation of marginalised groups, cultural awareness and empowerment of small business.

All successful extras are between the ages of eight and 80 and be from Athlone including Bridgetown, Silvertown Kewtown, Park Town, Rylands, Belgravia, Alicedale, Belthorn Estate and Crawford.

The filming of the 26 episode series is 10 weeks long and will run from June to August.

Melody produced by Gemini Twins Films and The Ergo Company will be aired on SABC2 for 24 minutes weekly.

Its storyline portrays an insecure young talented musician who gets an opportunity to audition for a traditional Cape musical and she discovers that she needs to defy her tyrannical father to achieve her dream.

Local talents Kim Bowers and Riedwaan Damon stars in this drama.
