In a bid to grow membership, residents are being urged to register as stem cell donors.

The Sunflower Fund joined the Western Province Blood Transfusion Services at the Westridge Civic Centre on Tuesday from 15:30 to 19:30 for blood donation and a stem cell donor drive.

Sometimes the only hope of survival for someone with a blood disorder is a stem cell transplant.

“One of our very critical goals is to ensure that South Africa has an ethnically diverse source of potential stem cell donors who are committed to help save lives,” says Kim Webster, Sunflower Fund spokesperson.

The Sunflower Fund, a non-profit company, is dedicated to creating awareness and recruiting blood stem cell donors.

“Donor drives, such as this one, are important for us to have the face-to-face opportunity to dispel some myths around stem cell donation, raise awareness and recruit donors. We provide the hope of life to individuals diagnosed with leukaemia and other blood disorders,” says Webster.
