Three years after launching her project, Annelise Kallis, a founder of Grace Community Projects from Lotus River, still wants to give more to her community.

She listened to her heart in June 2016 when she decided to start a soup kitchen for dwellers of the Phumlani informal settlement.

She was driven by the need to create a legacy for her two daughters and service the disadvantaged. From her own pocket, Kallis started expanding her charity work.

Currently, she has taken on a winter drive initiative that aims to collect as many beanies and blankets for underprivileged communities of the surrounding farms and the homeless.

“I’m just trying to make a small difference by trying to keep them warm during the cold winter weather by portraying God’s love, showing them that there is someone that cares and loves them,” Kallis says.

“My heart goes out to those that are less fortunate as we don’t always realise how blessed we are just to have a roof over our heads and a warm bed to sleep in.”

She appeals to anyone that have extra beanies and blankets to donate it to help her keep the vulnerable warm.

Other initiatives run by Kallis include feeding of 100 children once a week, collecting and distributing clothing, shoes, toys, stationery and toiletries. She also runs a weekly Yes I Can reading and writing and after-school programme for young children.

Last year, Kallis started an Adopt A Creche project that supports local creches with food, books and toys from donations she receives from the public.

She also runs Project F.L.Y meaning First Love Yourself which teaches women to love themselves no matter their circumstances.

She thanked everyone that has helped her, especially her close family and friends that have accepted sharing her time with everyone else.V To make a donation call 073 159 2434 or send an email to gracecommunityprojects@gmail.com.
