Soccer fever is casting a spell in Pinelands and Maitlands with a new club ready to make magic on the pitch, and on the internet. Magic FC is a soccer club on the rise and like any forward-thinking soccer club, it is putting in place a crucial element of a club’s success in the modern era – a website for its growing fan base.

This, according to club officials, is the next step to making sure the needs of its support base are met in all areas.

Based at the Old Mutual Sports Ground in Pinelands it is pulling in support from soccer fans in the area, as well as from Maitland, Kensington and Factreton.

The club plans to host its supporters in style at every home game with live entertainment before and after matches.

On Friday the internet action gets going with the launch of its website and official The Magic Supporters’ Club.

This is one of the many changes and innovations being implemented at the club in recent times. The vision of its owners is to ultimately get the club to play in the Premier Soccer League. At present the club is in the Safa Motsepe League and is in partnership with the Old Mutual Academy. It was bought by former Bafana Bafana player George Dearnaley in 2012 and played for two seasons as Old Mutual Academy. The name was changed to The Magic FC ahead of the 2014/15 season.

This year the club has brought on board the head of the Play Sport4Life community organisation, Miles October, who has an MBA in sports management.

First Cape Town, then the world“Every team needs a solid supporters’ club and to maintain your support base the club has to do a little more than just perform on the field,” says October.

“We want to be the most progressive club in the Cape, if not the land. With the official supporters’ organisation complemented by a highly functional website, we are simply doing what top clubs like Manchester United, Real Madrid and others are doing. The website will keep its support base up to date with the latest news. We want the club to be inclusive.”
