Make way for safer roads, pathways

2016-12-13 06:01

In preparation for increased traffic to Kloof Street during the festive season, the Oranje-Kloof City Improvement District (OKCID) has taken steps to ensure a safer street.

And with the expected increase in foot traffic, it is important for roads and pathways to be in excellent condition for community members’ safety, explains Mike Reeler, OKCID manager.

“We always ensure that incidents are reported. Street lighting is dealt with promptly and it’s fair to say that we are getting things done in reasonable time.”

The most recent project to maintain the condition of roads and pathways saw OKCID working with the City of Cape Town to provide repairs outside McDonald’s and renovations outside Slug & Lettuce.

OKCID has also repaired paving along Kloof Street and in OKCID areas where fibre has been laid in the past few months, says Reeler.

“The installation of fibre for local businesses in the community has been in the spotlight over the past few months, and this project is expected to finish early next year, by March.”

The OKCID team has not limited their improvement activities to the transport routes, though, insists Reeler, and have also facilitated rubbish removal and evicted illegal vagrants.
