A 67-year-old man is expected to appear in court after he was arrested for allegedly dealing in liquor illegally.

He was arrested on Friday 2 August in Piketberg Street, Tafelsig, after the Mitchell’s Plain police designated liquor officers executed a search warrant at the house.

Police spokesperson Captain Ian Williams said a total of 62 250ml of liquor was confiscated. “This included 750 ml Black Label beers (57), 750 ml Castle Lager beers (26) and seven South African Breweries crates.”

Brigadier Cass Goolam Mitchell’s Plain station commander said police were working around the clock to prevent and combat crime. “Clamping down on illegal shebeens reduces the amount of assault and domestic violence cases in the area as alcohol is often a contributor of these crimes,” added Goolam.

V Residents are advised to report all illegal liquor outlets to the police and can remain anonymous. Send an SMS to 35395 or call 0860 10111 to report any information.
