A 69-year-old man from Athlone was arrested by Manenberg police for the possession of tik on Friday.

The arrest happened while police were busy with crime prevention duties, stop-and-searches and patrols in the area.

Police members saw the man walk from a known drug house in Sugarloaf Street in Heideveld towards Tambo Village.

He was stopped and searched and they found 50g tik, valued at R5000, in his possession.

Police say he parked his car in Tambo Village to give the impression he lived in the area. But the members of the police’s crime prevention unit were suspicious of this and proceeded to investigate, which led to the arrest.

The man will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court this week.
