Man arrested over doctor’s murder in Sea Point

Police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of a Rwandan doctor only hours after the body was found.

Sea Point police were called out to the murder scene at a building in Beach Road on Monday 8 January at around 10:00. The tenants of the building had been complaining of a foul smell coming from a locked apartment. Police requested the building’s caretaker open the flat, where the body of the 40-year-old doctor, Raymond Dusabe, was found, confirms Sea Point police spokesperson, Captain Elizabeth Munro.

Officers opened a murder docket and after receiving a tip-off, arrested a 29-year-old man at around 17:00 on the same day. He is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.

According to the New Times, Dusabe was a Gynaecological Oncologist who had been working at King Faisal Hospital in Kigali. He had reportedly grown up as a Rwandan refugee in Burundi.

Dusabe was reportedly visiting Cape Town on holiday.

Dusabe has been lauded as a pioneer within his specialty. He studied as a foreign post-graduate student at Stellenbosch University and had been selected and funded by Tygerberg's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology to sub-specialise in gynaecologic oncology.
