Man bust for illegal pistol

2018-01-23 06:00

Police arrested a 37-year-old man in Manenberg on Tuesday night.

According to Manenberg police spokesperson, Captain Ian Bennett, the man was arrested for the possession of an illegal firearm.

“Officers once again responded to a shooting incident in Irvine Street. They patrolled the vicinity of the shooting and saw the man running away when he spotted the police. The police managed to corner the suspect and on searching him they found a pistol in his possession,” says Bennett.

Bennett adds that the pistol had its serial number filed off and a case of possession of an illegal firearm has been opened for investigation, while an additional charge of possession of a prohibited firearm will be added, as this carries a more serious penalty.

V Anyone with information on illegal firearms and ammunition can call Manenberg Police Station on 021 699 9400 or Crime Stop on 0860 010 111.
