A man who faked being disabled while begging in Constantia, was arrested on Wednesday after he became violent with Law Enforcement officers.
Law Enforcement spokesperson, Wayne Dyason, says the man was arrested at the intersection of Spaanschemat River Road and Ladies Mile for fraud and obstructing an official in the execution of his duties.
He says officers passing through the area were informed that the man, who appeared to be physically disabled, was aggressively begging from motorists and banging on car windows.
“Officers eventually managed to get him to the Diep River Police Station, by which stage they had figured out that he was not disabled, but simply used it as a ruse to solicit donations from the public. He was charged with impersonating a disabled person and obstruction.”
Dyason says the man is known among officers in Somerset West. “I even know him personally to be a beggar who fakes being disabled. The man is a brilliant actor and he has been arrested and charged previously for the exact same actions.”
