Police are investigating a case of armed robbery after a 21-year-old man had his laptop taken from him in Belgravia on Saturday evening.

Athlone police spokesperson Sergeant Zita Norman says the victim was driving down Eighth Avenue in Belgravia when he noticed seven men standing on the corner. “One of the suspects blocked the man’s car and threatened him with a firearm. The man then turned off Eighth Avenue at a residence and pulled into the yard where the suspect followed him and robbed him of his Dell laptop to the value of R3500 and ran away,” says Norman.

She adds that no shots fired, no injuries sustained and no suspects arrested.

Athlone police station commander Colonel Mark Adonis is asking anyone with information regarding this case to come forward with information.

Adonis is also engaging with their neighbourhood watches to be vigilant whilst patrolling in their respective areas. “Street and court committees we appeal to you to be actively involved in the continuous fight against crime.”

Anyone with information on crime can call the police at Crime Stop at 0860 010 111. All information will be treated as highly confidential.
