A 34-year-old man is in a critical condition at Groote Schuur Hospital after he was shot in the neck twice during the early hours of this morning (11 January).

The man was shot by an unknown suspect at 00:50 today at the informal settlement Flamingo Heights, Lansdowne.

Lansdowne police spokesperson Sergeant Nkululeko Mnyaka says the motive for the shooting is unknown.

“Police responded to shooting incident at Flamingo Heights. When police arrived, the victim was (found) shot in the neck twice and left lying helplessly. According to information received the victim was walking into the Flamingo Heights settlement when a man came from behind and shot him. The suspect fled the scene in a white vehicle in an unknown direction,” Mnyaka confirms.

The victim was transported by ambulance to the hospital.

A case of attempted murder has been opened for investigation and no arrests has been made.
