Police nabbed three men for trying to hide a gun, drugs and ammunition in separate arrests on Friday.

The Mitchell’s Plain police sector commanders, with the neighbourhood watches of Rocklands and Portlands, executed a routine community mobilisation operation in their respective areas.

At 19:15 police patrolling in Beaufort Street, Rocklands noticed a parked Toyota Quantum with five occupants parked.

The officers approached one of the men who had gotten out of the minivan. As he walked across the street they saw him drop a gun from the side of his pants to the ground.

A Norinco 9mm pistol with 14 live rounds of ammunition was confiscated and the 42-year-old man was arrested.

In another incident, officers of the Mitchell’s Plain Crime Prevention Unit arrested a 34-year-old man in Kardouw Street, Tafelsig.

Officers saw the suspicious-looking man walking from a well-known drug house on Friday at 16:30. They stopped and searched him and saw him dropping a small, clear plastic packet with six live rounds of R5 ammunition. They promptly arrested him.

On the same afternoon, officers searched a house in Siberian Street, Rocklands and arrested a 65-year-old man after they found 18 mandrax tablets and 20 stoppe of dagga hidden in the fridge.
