Man’s throw can’t knock cops out

2017-08-08 06:01

Manenberg police arrested a 22-year-old man recently for possession of an illegal firearm.

“Due to the ongoing gang activity within the Manenberg policing precinct, officers have saturated the area and additional patrols have been put in place, increasing police visibility,” says police spokesperson Captain Ian Bennett.

Bennett adds that while the police patrolled Letaba Street in Manenberg last Saturday, they noticed a group of men standing in front of a house.

“As they approached they noticed a man walking away. When they got closer they saw him throw something on the roof of the house. On closer investigation they found that is was a .22 revolver with serial number still in place,” adds Bennett.

He was arrested and will be charged with the illegal possession of an unlicenced firearm.

Bennett urges residents to continue to keep the police informed.

“They will be rewarded financially when and if officers execute a successful arrest and conviction for the possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.”V Anyone with information regarding illegal firearms and ammunition can call Manenberg Police Station on 021 699 9400 or Crime Stop on 0860 010 111.
