Masque is back to its old glory

2017-12-05 06:00

After having recently been to our community’s Masque Theatre I would like to congratulate the Masque board members for at last appointing a manager who knows why he is there and what he is doing: Getting the theatre filled with patrons.

It is a pleasure to go to our local theatre once more. This theatre is for the community at large.

I missed Vincent Myberg’s Jungle Theatre performance and the excellent work he is doing amongst the community, but I did enjoy Bird cage that evening. It is an excellent production.

It is apt to repeat here what Diane Wilson said once on entering the theatre: “There is a sense of arrival.” Claire Watling and Claire Berlein, both professional actresses of note, mentioned similar thoughts when performing in the Masque. This still rings true today.

The foyer has been dollied up to make one feel most welcome. I could have stayed far longer than just the drinks after the show. It has become a meeting place once more. Well done, Mark Wilkes and team.

And thank you, Masque board members, for your choice of management. Nicola Date did a great job but Mark has placed the cherry on top. Perhaps the board members should pat themselves on the back by showing us who you are so that we can also pat you on the back. Let’s have your mug shots on a notice board somewhere in the splendidly revamped foyer. Then we’ll be able to recognise you in the theatre and say: “Job well done.”

Long live the Masque Theatre, Mark, Ashley and Tim and all those hard-working volunteers. I look forward to the next production.
