Cape Town Mayor Dan Plato will visit Overcome Heights on Wednesday 19 February, after three people were burned alive there on Sunday 16 February.

People's Post visited the Old Italy Sports Ground today (Tuesday 18 February) where the community gathered to address the incident.

Residents say the reason for the murders were related to ongoing incidents of theft in the informal settlement.

A resident who wants to remain unnamed said: "The people wanted to set an example."

It is alleged that the three deceased were common thieves.

Another resident says: "Hulle was al vrek gemoer en gebrand." (they were already beaten to death and then burned)

He adds the police who were on the scene did nothing to apprehend the suspects, which had residents cheering in agreement.

Plato will be at the site tomorrow at 09:00 to address residents' concerns.
