A Metrorail official has laid charges of attempted murder, reckless/negligent driving and ignoring a legal instruction to stop against a driver following a collison in False Bay today (6 March). 

Metrorail spokesperson, Riana Scott, says the case was opened at Muizenberg Police Station after the motorist allegedly ignored road signage and the officer's warnings to stop for an oncoming train at  11:30 this morning at the Uxbridge Road level crossing in Muizenberg .  

“According to initial reports, the driver of the vehicle ignored instructions to reduce speed, proceeded to circumvent the boom and attempted to run her over at the Uxbridge level crossing (between False Bay and Lakeside). The oncoming train then struck the front of the vehicle. No injuries were reported. The train was en route to Cape Town when the incident happened.” 

She says police are on site and for the duration of their investigation the inbound track will be closed. Train traffic is being re-directed onto the remaining open track.
