Residents in and around Bloubos Crescent in Eastridge welcomed an initiative by local officials in having their housing concerns addressed.

“My ward office is located in Town Centre; however, I chose the location as I know there are many families in the location that can access municipality rebates and needed to do updates on the housing database,” says ward 79 councillor, Solomon Philander.

“The mobile City of Cape Town services are an initiative to bring services to the people, especially to those that need to walk far distances to access municipal services. What I observed is that the senior people in Eastridge were now able to access the mobile services.”

A total of 72 residents made use of the service on the day. There were 38 residents who visited the office for new housing database applications, 32 for housing database updates and nine for general tenancy management enquiries. This excludes residents who posed questions directly to the ward councillor. “I will surely request another visit to ward 79 in other parts of Eastridge as part of the request to the community to visit the local municipal office or the ward councillor’s office to assist with municipal complaints and that account holders should manage their accounts monthly and should they identify any challenges to speak out so that we can assist early and not when the account runs into the hundreds and thousands,” says Philander.

“The MyEstate service is the initiative from the Asset and Facility portfolio in the City. This is specifically launched to bring city services around housing to the people especially in the instances where people must walk far places to access services.”
