Money raised from the stalls at the fifth Willow Park Market in Sunnydale on Saturday 6 October will go towards purchasing new cameras for the neighbourhood watch.

“Since May we held four markets and we only had to cancel it once due to extreme weather. The upcoming one has a twist as we are having a fancy dress competition with prizes for the kids taking part. There will be jumping castles for them to enjoy whilst their parents browse. It is a great afternoon out for everyone with fantastic food,” Chantelle Galvin, organiser of the Willow Park Market, says.

The majority of the stallholders live in the Fish Hoek Valley, with only a handful of traders coming from further afield to display and sell their goods.

“We have a diverse number of traders, with new traders joining us every month. We have stalls selling cheeses, sausages, pickles, samoosas, freshly baked breads and pastries, cakes, fudge, droëwors, boerewors rolls, coffee and cooldrinks. We even have a vegan/vegetarian trader who joins us every second month. There are previously loved items, books and CDs. There are also stands selling plants and succulents. We have some craft stands selling table runners, bags, homemade cards, scrunchies, jewellery – we are hoping to grow this side of our market to include more of our fantastic crafters in the Valley,” Galvin says.

There will also be “slime” for the kids at their next market. At the last market there was a jumping castle which will again be at the upcoming market.

“I cannot say which stall is the most popular, but I think it is a toss-up between the food stalls, especially the boerewors roll stand for lunch – they are seriously delicious. The plant stall at our last market did fantastically well, as everyone was enjoying the warm weather. The kids love the baked goods, jumping castles and balloon animals,” she says.

The market is held on the first Saturday of every month from 14:00 to 18:00 in the summer and from 14:00 to 17:00 in the winter months. V Call Chantelle on 083 414 6860 or email willowparkmarket@gmail.com.
