More feet on street

After consultations and in response to the need for the temporary redeployment of law enforcement officers stationed at Town Centre, there will be an influx of yellow bibs at the shopping hub.

A total of 30 neighbourhood watch (NHW) volunteers will be deployed to the shopping hub until the end of January.

“We need more eyes on the street. Law enforcement officers are needed at the beaches and this is to ensure the safety of shoppers,” says ward 79 councillor and subcouncil 12 chair, Solomon Philander.

The project forms part of the Mayoral Urban Renewal Programme (Murp).

Murp manager for the area, Ivan Anthony, consulted with local surrounding NHW structures before the roll-out.

This is not the first time this initiative has been rolled out at Town Centre and forms part of the festive season plan for the area.

Philander says the shopping centre becomes busy over this period and safety must be considered.

Philander says the volunteers will be the eyes and ears on the ground and work in conjunction with other safety structures and organisations in the Town Centre.
