Muizenberg police arrested 50 people in the first 10 days of March.

The arrests include two warrants of arrest, one for house robbery, four for theft, five for shoplifting and 10 for the possession of drugs. Police arrested three people for assault, two for domestic violence and one for selling liquor without a licence.

Arrests were also made for malicious injury to property, car theft, trespassing, drunken driving and housebreaking.

One man was arrested for rape and three were arrested for dealing in drugs.

Muizenberg police have also noted a number of street robberies in the area, especially in which weapons such as screwdrivers and knives are used.

“We have increased our visibility and patrols and would like to request the community to be more vigilant and adhere to basic guidelines,” says Muizenberg police spokesperson Captain Stephen Knapp.

These include:

. Always try to walk in a group. While walking, do not talk on your cellphone or display jewellery and valuables.

. Be observant and take note of your surroundings. Be wary of loitering strangers.

. Walk in well-lit places after dark and avoid open fields or secluded areas.
