More rape cases in Woodstock

The local crime statistics for the year from April last year to March this year were made public last week.

KensingtonThe statistics reveal that there has been less crime reported in Kensington compared to the previous year.

Murders dropped from 9 cases to 6 and attempted murder decreased to 6 cases from 18.

Common robberies increased 13% while burglaries increased 43%.

Commercial crime increased by 20 cases compared to the total of 15 cases reported the whole previous year, a 133% ­increase.

Possession of illegal firearms and ammunition 82% to 3 cases.

Drug-related cases decreased 55% to 313 cases.

MaitlandContact crimes in Maitland increased from 403 to 529 cases.

Robbery with aggravating circumstances increased to 189 cases, compared to 108 in the previous year.

Murders increased from 5 cases to 8.

The subcategory of aggravated robbery increased 32% to 53 cases.

A total of 2059 cases were reported in the most recent year, compared to 1862 in the previous year.

WoodstockThe released statistics show a high rise in cases of drinking under the influence of alcohol and rape that were reported in Woodstock.

Rape increased 58% with 7 more cases reported this past year.

Drunken driving cases increase 80%.

Drug-related crimes increased 16% with about 148 more cases reported this past year.

Common and commercial robberies increased 10% over the past year.
