More road upgrades

2018-06-12 06:01

Plans for further road upgrades to Grassy Park have been tabled at subcouncil 18.

Two proposals were tabled – for Misrole Avenue and Le Grange Street, as well as Second Avenue between Lake and Zeekoe roads, where residents have voiced their concern at the unacceptable speeds at which vehicles are travelling, while increased traffic has also necessitated the need for extra measures to be put in place.

Both motions were noted and supported by the rest of the subcouncil and the applications will be taken forward after they have passed through full council and the budget has been approved.

Patricia van der Ross, councillor for ward 65, says the two proposals are only two of many applications that will be rolled out and staggered.

“Traffic calming measures applications that we put through, for the subcouncil that was two areas that we cover.

“We have 19 applications regarding traffic calming measures which are outstanding for ward 65 so far. Out of the applications, some of them have reached implementation stage, which is Third Avenue, which has gotten to its implementation stage now,” she says.

She adds that funding was set aside for these projects to the tune of R100 000 to R120 000 per financial year.

The proposal for Misrole Avenue at the intersection of La Grange Road is for two speed humps to be constructed, with another after the intersection.

“We have Third Avenue ending off this financial year. For the new financial year we are looking at another three or four areas that we can cover. We will then sit down and prioritise it with the officials,” explains Van der Ross.
