Following the latest rollout of service to council rental stock in Ottery, 11 other blocks have been earmarked for the next phase to be carried out in ward 65.

According to ward councillor William Akim, the council rental flats in Willow Road are receiving aluminium window frames.

Further upgrades to Alida, Beulah, Corin, Denise, Edna, Francis and Gerda courts will see each of their staircases being replaced.

Akim says these upgrades will take place in August.

“Temporary employment will be provided to unemployed [persons] who reside at the different courts. Council rental flats in Parkers Walk will be painted and unemployed [persons] staying in Parkers Walk will get temporary employment,” he says.

Other upgrades also include the installation of new infrastructure such as new water pipes in order to increase water pressure in those particular council rental flats in ward 66 which have been affected by reduced pipe pressure issues in the past.

Akim says plans are in place for an electrification project for residents living in backyards in the ward, while the Edward Road housing project will see 104 affordable houses being built, which will also bring temporary employment to residents in the area.
