Moth service

2017-10-31 06:00

This year the Memorable Order of Tin Hats (Moth) of Battledress Shellhole will be holding their annual remembrance parade and service in the Garden of Remembrance on Kommetjie Road on Sunday.

The parade will take place after the Moth members fall in on the car park on 2nd Avenue at 16:30 and march behind the Cape Town Caledonian Pipe Band.

The service will start in the remembrance garden at 17:00.

The Moth is an ex-serviceman’s organisation founded in 1927 by Charles Alfred Evenden.

This year the Moths are celebrating 90 years of existence.

The Moths help fellow comrades in need, either financially or physically, and remember all servicemen who have died and answered the sunset call, both in war and peace time.

The eternal flame that burns at the cairn in the remembrance garden is a reminder of servicemen from the surrounding Fish Hoek area who made the supreme sacrifice for their country.

The names engraved on the plaque at the cairn honour those brave men.
