Mowbray police mourn Ncipa

2018-08-20 12:18

Mowbray Police Station is mourning the death of Constable Siyamcela Ncipa (37), one of two officers shot dead over the weekend.

Both officers were off duty at the time of the incidents.

Ncipa was shot twice in the head outside the residence of a friend in Site B, Khayelitsha, on Friday and his firearm was stolen.

Colonel Louise Dyres, station commander for Mowbray police, says they are saddened by Ncipa’s passing and appreciate the support of the community and the provincial police office.

“We are not doing well at all, this is heartbreaking.”

She describes Ncipa as a hardworking and loyal officer.

According to Dyres, Ncipa leaves behind his wife and three children.

In another incident Constable Lonwabo Kili, stationed in Bellville South, was shot on the corner of Sarah Baartman Road and Symphony Way in Delft at 20:00 on Friday night. He was reportedly picking up someone known to him. His firearm was also stolen.

Provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula, conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families. He said the perpetrators of these two heinous incidents will be hunted down and will face the full might of the law.

“It is disturbing to observe that criminals have no regard for human life. Not even police officers are spared as they also fall prey to these attacks. Ours is to work around the clock to get to perpetrators.”

Jula says detectives from the Hawks have taken over the investigations.
