Five blocks of flats on the corner of Buck Road and Fourth Avenue in Lotus River will get a new look.

According to the ward 65 councillor, Patricia van der Ross, the City of Cape Town has allocated a budget of up to R55 000 for the project.

Though there is no specific date for the commencement, but the work is excepted to start this month (May).

These flats are owned by the City and rented out to hundreds of ratepayers.

Van der Ross said the flats have been standing there for 40 years and were last painted more than four years ago.

She said her office together with the City understand the importance of giving sufficient service delivery to ratepayers and are aware of the circumstances surrounding the community.

She said in an area with a block of flats there is always confusion and difficulties finding the correct address without an obvious landmark.

She has said that they will be using unique, colourful paint for each block.

“It is not just about painting for the sake of neatness, but we want to make sure it is easy to identify them in cases of emergencies, assuring safety and sufficient service delivery for everyone.”

Van der Ross said this is among many plans the City has for the area.

She urged the tenants to bear with the officials for the duration of the work and to continue their positive relationship with her office.
