A 57-year-old man appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Monday) in connection with the murder of Gill Packham from Constantia who went missing last week.

Packham’s husband, Rob, is facing charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice. He was arrested late on Thursday evening (1 March).

Packham worked at Springfield Convent School. She left home for school around 07:00 on Thursday 22 February but never arrived. Her body was later found in a boot of her car, burnt beyond recognition.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk confirmed the body was found at Diep River railway station and identified by forensic DNA comparisons. “A team of detectives attached to Diep River police detective services, after working tirelessly for the past week, arrested a 57-year-old man at his residence in Constantia for the murder of Packham and he was taken into custody.”

The court heard on Monday that blood presumably belonging to Packham, was found in the couple’s homeand on the door to the driver’s side of the accused’s car, News24 reported.

The state is opposing bail and the accused will remain in custody until his next appearance on Friday.”
