N2 MyCiTi Express service still suspended

2019-06-11 06:01

The N2 Express service for MyCiTi commuters from Mitchell’s Plain and Khayelitsha will be unavailable until further notice, the City of Cape Town said in a statement.

The statement promised the City would inform commuters as soon as the service resumes.

“Residents from Mitchell’s Plain and Khayelitsha who travel on the N2 Express service are advised to load mover points instead of monthly tickets on their myconnect cards until further notice,” the statement read.

The City also encouraged those who had already loaded their tickets to come forth for refunds.

“We advise these commuters to please visit the Zone 3 kiosk at the Civic MyCiTi station in Cape Town where they will be required to complete a refund form,” said Felicity Purchase Mayco member for transport.

“As stated above, they will be refunded immediately, and in cash, once they have completed and signed the refund form.”

The refunding of commuters was expected to start yesterday, Monday 10 June, and is expected to continue until Friday 21 June between 06:00 and 21:45. The refunds will be paid out at the Civic Centre station.

“Unfortunately, we cannot refund commuters at the MyCiTi kiosks in Khayelitsha and Mitchell’s Plain due to threats to our MyCiTi personnel, and for security reasons,” Purchase said in a statement.

She said the City is doing everything it can to negotiate a new contract to ensure that the N2 Express service becomes operational again.

She concluded by saying: “In the meantime, I want to inform MyCiTi commuters that we are meeting with the stakeholders from the N2 Express service on a day-to-day basis.

“We are all committed to finding a long-term solution that will get the MyCiTi buses back on the road.

“I am hoping to make an announcement soon about when the service is ready to operate again.”
