On Monday 18 March at about 08:30, police officers of Operation Thunder, assisted by officers from Muizenberg Police Station, were busy with routine crime prevention patrols when they noted a suspicious man in Drakensberg Road, Hillview. The suspect, who was carrying a firearm, attempted to evade the officers but was pursued and after a warning shot was fired, he was apprehended and found to be in the possession of a 9mm Makarov pistol with seven rounds of live ammunition. Muizenberg police spokesperson Captain Stephen Knapp says the suspect, a 24-year-old resident of Hillview, was arrested on charges of being in the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. Knapp says the acting station commander of Muizenberg Police, Lieutenant Colonel Deidre Engelbrecht, was extremely pleased with the arrest and thanked the officers for their hard work, diligence and bravery in creating a safer community.
