A 32-year-old man ended up behind bars after stealing a specially designed gold ring valued at R45 000.

The suspect was visiting as a family friend on Monday 21 January in Bankot Road, Lansdowne.

The complainant explains that she was at her home with her husband when she took off her wedding ring and placed it in her jewellery box on the dressing table.

Then on Wednesday 23 January at 09:00, the woman went back to get her ring when she discovered it was missing. She remembered that she had visitors on that Monday. The suspect had been in the bedroom answering a call. The arrest came after CCTV footage was viewed by the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Gregory Grey. The man was arrested at a guest house in Sea Point. The ring was found at a jeweller in Main Road, Sea Point after they had bought it for R5000.

The accused was charged with theft and appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday last week. He was released on bail and the case was remanded to tomorrow (Wednesday).
