A new developer has taken over the notorious “Peppermint Palace” on Muizenberg’s Main Road, following reports of an increase in crime, suspected to be emanating from the property.

The property, which formed part of a deceased estate, was due to be auctioned in May.

However, ward councillor Aimee Kuhl has confirmed the building inspector has been in contact with representatives of the deceased owner.

“The building has been sold to a developer. This will finally change the derelict building into a space that will add value to the community instead of being an ongoing safety risk. I will be meeting with the developer and representatives of the city to discuss a concrete way forward. We appreciate the patience the community has displayed in this ongoing saga and hope to get things going on site as soon as possible.”
