Mitchell’s Plain Police Station held an honorary promotion parade for more than 40 officers who were recently promoted.

The parade was held at the Beacon Hill High School hall on Thursday.

A total of 43 officers were promoted to ranks of Sergeant, Captain and Warrant Officer among others and the event was attended by station commander, Brigadier Cass Goolam and acting cluster commander, Major-General Hendrik Burger, who issued the officers with their new ranks.

The promoted officers will remain and serve at Mitchell’s Plain Police Station.

The event was opened with a parade by the officers, followed by a rendition of the National Anthem and a reading of the Police Code of Conduct.

The event also featured musical items by the Mitchell’s Plain Police Station Choir.

Mitchell’s Plain police spokesperson, Captain Ian Williams says 21 officers were promoted from Constable to Sergeant. Five officers were promoted from Warrant Officer Band B1 to Warrant Officer Band B2. Williams explains that these officers have been in the rank of Warrant Officer for a period of time and are now on Band B2 - a classification of a more senior position within the rank.

Another 12 Level 7 officials were promoted to Captain. The level 7 officials are made up of Uniformed Warrant Officers and officials employed under the Public Services Act. These include civilians who work for the South African Police Services in more admin roles, among other duties. Five Captains were also promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
