Hope House counselling centre in Bergvliet is calling on the public to help them deliver smiles to people who can’t afford Christmas.

The non-profit organisation offers counselling services, play therapy and substance abuse intervention and prevention programmes to some of the most vulnerable children in the city.

“We see cases of abuse, depression and trauma all year round – this annual event is an important way to bring some joy to these children,” says Judy Strickland, child counsellor and founder of Hope House.

“There are many families in Atlantis and Kalkfontein who cannot afford to wake up to gifts on Christmas morning. Many children miss out on the joy of receiving something special of their own.

“This is why every year Hope House rallies the community to give 60 children between the ages of one and six a party and their own wrapped gift.

“Hope House is asking the public for donations of the following goods: Soap, facecloths, cream, toothbrushes, toothpaste, T-shirts, age-appropriate toys, small packets of chips, boxes of juice and sweets.
