NGOs to register for CPF

2017-07-25 06:00

Following a failed attempt to elect members to the Lentegeur Community Policing Forum (CPF) in May, the process has once again been put in motion.

Residents and local organisations had been called to a special general elective meeting on 23 May to fill several positions following resignations (“CPF dead in the water”, People’s Post, 30 May).

Residents called for the board to be dissolved and a full election to be held, claiming the current CPF board was disfunctional, but officials responded that time was needed to take the necessary steps to determine this.

Lentegeur station commander Colonel Herman Seals said at the meeting he would write to all parties involved and raise the residents’ concerns.

Residents also called for registration to be reopened and for more organisations to register for eligibility to vote. Seals said registration would open after Ramadaan and it has since opened. The purpose of the registration is to ensure that organisations are registered and can take part in elections.

Police management, together with the Mitchell’s Plain cluster CPF, are now calling on all registered NGOs and other community organisations to register with the board.

Registration forms can be collected from social crime prevention officer Sergeant Richard Smith in room 24 of the police station.

The forms will be available until Thursday 31 August.

Details for the election will follow.

Seals says: “Strengthening the partnership between the community and the police is high on the agenda as it is contributing to reducing crime. Therefore we urge the registered NGOs and organisations of Lentegeur to come in their numbers and register. Together we can make a difference and grow from strength to strength and address crime issues in Lentegeur policing precinct.”
