Parking along Baden Powell Drive late at night or the early hours of the morning will lead to the endangerment of life and property, police warn.

This follows an incident on Monday 3 April at 23:40 where Mitchell’s Plain police attended a complaint of a hijacking at Mnandi Beach, Rocklands.

According to the complainant he had been at the beach busy loading litres of seawater when two men approached him.

The complainant then quickly closed the boot and got into the car.

He later noticed that one of the men carried an object that looked like a firearm.

The one suspect then used the object to knock on the car and asked the complainant to open the car door. When the complainant opened the car door, the suspects took the car keys that were lying on the dash board. They forced the man out of the car before driving off with his car.

The car is a blue VW Golf with registration CF124568.

No shots were fired and no one was injured.

Police are again issuing a warning to people not to park in isolated beach areas especially along Baden Powell Drive, which includes Mnandi Beach, Wolfgat Nature reserve, Blue Waters and Strandfontein Pavilion, especially late at night or during early morning hours.

At those times people are most vulnerable to attack as these very same isolated spots become traps for them.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stop on 0800 10 111 or Mitchell’s Plain police on 021 3701600 or 0213701782.
