NPO restores hope

2016-09-20 06:00

Restoring Hope Association, a non-profit organisation, is running a school clothing and stationery drive to help disadvantaged children achieve academic success.

Dale Hendricks, director of the association, says: “Our mission for Restoring Hope is to work alongside local communities to empower them to reach their full potential in different aspects of their lives. We aim to do this through the use of resources that are accessible to them as well as with the assistance of established organisations and the community, to restore hope in these previously disadvantaged communities.”

Some of their projects include blanket and clothing drives for the homeless and stationery drives for less fortunate schools.

“For September we will be hosting a stationery and a school clothing drive to bless the less fortunate children at local disadvantaged schools,” he explains.

They are asking for donations of any stationery item and school clothing items, including grey school pants, white shirts, socks and shoes. These will be donated to Christian David Moravian Primary School in Coniston Park.

“The school hosts students who are from the neighbouring areas, such as Lavender Hill, Steenberg and Vrygrond. Often, these kids do not have access to more than one pair of pants or more than one school shirt – resulting in them wearing out their school clothing really fast. Our aim is to help them with uniforms so that they can concentrate more on their school work,” says Hendricks.
