2019-11-19 06:01

The Strandfontein National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) duty crew was activated on Sunday 10 November at 13:22 following reports of a drowning in progress at Fishermans Walk, west of Strandfontein Pavilion.

The sea rescue craft GrandWest CSI and Film Industry Fund Rescuer One was launched to search in the surfline.

NSRI rescue swimmers, City of Cape Town lifeguards, City law enforcement, provincial government health emergency medical service rescue squad, Cape Town fire and rescue services, the fire dive unit and City traffic services responded.

A search commenced for a 15-year-old Belhar boy, who reportedly went missing in the surf while swimming. NSRI rescue swimmers and City lifeguards conducted sweeping line free dive search efforts in the surfline. Despite an extensive sea and shoreline search, the teenager could not be located.
