During this school holiday, Read to Rise will be visiting 25 public libraries around Cape Town with a puppet show about Oaky the Happy Tree.

Each library visited will receive a free set of eight Oaky books for children to borrow and read. The first puppet was held on Tuesday 19 March at the Mitchell’s Plain Town Centre Public Library. Another show will be held tomorrow (Wednesday 27) at 12:00 at Rocklands Library and on Thursday 28 March at 12:00 at Lentegeur Library.

“Our library programme has been made possible this year thanks to our kind sponsors SALI Trust – who have sponsored the 225 books and puppet theatre – and the author Athol Williams – who has sponsored the puppets,” says Read to Rise project manager, Roscoe Williams.

“While the library shows are offered for free to the community, we are making school shows available that will incur a small charge of which all proceeds will go towards to funding of our organisation and its work in underresourced communities,” says William.V If anyone is interested in booking an Oaky Puppet Show, visit their website on www.readtorise.co.za
