Traffic offenders have found themselves in the hot seat following as series of enforcement operations in Green Point.Ward councillor Dave Bryant says a focused taxi blitz took place on Saturday 7 April during which 13 taxis were impounded. Additional operations have also been carried out this month in Green Point, including one in Springbok Road and Ocean View Drive on Tuesday 17 April.During this operation, almost 30 fines were issued, including 17 for disregarding stop signs. Bryant says: “I have been receiving numerous complaints relating to traffic offences in Green Point and have requested these interventions in an effort to address certain hotspots. Law-abiding commuters cannot continue to be endangered by inconsiderate drivers.”The focus has been on moving violations and checking of relevant permits for taxis. “The statistics have shown that minibus and sedan taxis account for the bulk of moving violations, although many offences continue to be committed by drivers in private vehicles,” Bryant adds.Following the operations, Bryant has received reports of a reduction in contraventions in certain hotspots in Green Point. “We will start to see a significant improvement if we can maintain the frequency and intensity of these operations,” he says.
