Former learners of Westerford High School will play against the current learners of the school in the annual Past versus Present Winter Sports Day at the Imhoff Sports Complex on Saturday 1 September.

Organisers promise a morning full of life and networking as former learners connect with present learners to share their experiences at the school.

Margie Hiscock, secretary of the Old Westerfordian Association, says this has been a tradition at the school for many years and has grown tremendously over the past three years.

Hiscock says attendees will witness dozens of teams in the different sport codes taking each other on.

Fixtures between past and present include hockey, netball, soccer and squash. A special feature this year is the rugby match when Champions 21 and Under take on Legends 21 and Older

“Only in the case of rugby, where it is appropriate, there will be a Stayers versus Leavers encounter followed by two teams of past pupils rekindling their rugby memories in an age-based fixture. The Soap Box Derby is sure to entertain, and the market day stalls are stocked with loads of tempting delights. It will see to rouse them on the Saturday morning, to take out their sports kit and to make their way to the Imhoff Sports Complex.

“The warm spirit of camaraderie is infectious and builds the traditions upon which the school is built. Past pupils are given the opportunity to socialise and to network. They will be reminded of their opportunity to support the school’s bursary fund for youngsters who would not normally be able to enjoy a Westerford educational experience.”

Entrance to the event is free but participating individuals are encouraged to sign up with the school prior to the event to book their spot at the code of their preference.

There will be an awards ceremony after the event followed by a free snack and half-price beers.
