Sixty-two-year-old Fuad Sawyer brings his annual fundraising concert to Rondebosch this year.

The concert will take place at Erin Hall in Rondebosch on Sunday 7 October at 15:00.

Sawyer previously hosted concerts to raise funds to pay his medical bills but this year he will be sharing some of the proceeds with a charity organisation.

“Living with a disability myself, I know how it is to need help.

“For that reason I have decided to donate a certain amount of the proceeds to Cape Town Society for the Blind (CTSB).”

Sawyer is confined to a wheelchair as his leg was amputated and he is partially blind due to diabetes.

He hopes to raise R10 000 on the evening. The venue can accommodate 100 people and he will also be selling CDs.

He will be singing a collection of the late Mario Lanza’s music.

Lanza was popular from the early 1940s for his hits like “Serenade” and “The Loveliest Night of the Year”.

Sawyer says that as an elderly person himself he knows that sometimes people do miss old-school music, hence he continues to bring the music back to see people enjoying themselves while being reminded of the old days.

His voice is the one thing he has that allows him to make a difference.

“Even though I am disabled I can make a difference in other people’s lives. Singing is what I am good at and music is a powerful tool that can touch many souls, heal and inspire.”

Sawyer appeals to the public to support the concert.

V To book a ticket call Sawyer on 021 447 8252 or 081 806 2225. CDs will be sold at R60 each.
