The Muizenberg Amateur Dramatic Society (MADS) will be presenting Noel Coward’s Fallen Angels at The Masque Theatre in Muizenberg from Friday 20 May.

This 1925 champagne-bubbly, witty romp is full of the sharp dialogue and satirical insights into the British upper class that Coward is renowned for.

The play centres around two bored, upper-class British housewives, Julia Sterroll and her best friend Jane Banbury, who are both left pining for the long lost passion of their youth as their husbands prefer golf to romance. Their lives are suddenly about to be turned upside down by the imminent return of Maurice Duclos – their shared, ex-French lover.

The pair alternate between ecstasy and terror in case he should appear and expose their former lustful indiscretions.

Directed by Barbara Basel, the play stars CATA nominee Jana Botha and newcomer to the Masque Tamika Sewnarain as the bored best friends.

Masque regulars Gary Green, Eve Carr and Alastair Duff are also on stage alongside Mark Wilkes who won a Best Newcomer CATA for his role in the Milnerton Players’ production of Noises Off.

Margi Blewett has designed an ‘art-deco’ set to compliment Alastair Duff’s costumes, which reflect the glamour of post-World War One while John Blewett will create his usual magic with lights and sound.V Fallen Angels will be staged Wednesday to Saturdays until Saturday 28 May with a matinee on Saturday 21 May. Call the Masque Theatre on 021 788 1898 or email bookings@masquetheatre.co.za to book.
