One man was killed and three others injured on Friday morning, 19 January, when the truck in which they were travelling overturned on the roadside barrier on the N2 highway in Athlone.

According to ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, paramedics, along with the Metro Rescue Services, arrived on the scene to find a truck leaning against the roadside barrier.

“The body of a man was found lying pinned between the barrier and the truck while three other men were found walking around on the scene.”

Meiring says paramedics assessed the man pinned against the barrier and found that he had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life.

“Unfortunately, nothing could be done for the man and he was declared dead.”

The three other men were assessed and found to have sustained minor to moderate injuries.

“The patients were treated for their injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

“A specialised rescue crane had to be utilised to later lift the truck off the barrier,” Meiring says.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
