Nahla, the cat  from Diep River, that was allegedly shot by a neighbour has been found alive, but she is in a very bad state.

She was found today (11 February) hiding in the kitchen of a nearby school in Diep River. After Nahla was allegedly shot, it is believed that she ran to the school where somebody found her and nursed her before she was taken to a vet.

Following the shooting of Nahla, the owners opened a case against their neighbour, Antonie Gericke, who allegedly shot her. He made his first court appearance on Thursday 4 February where he faced charges of animal cruelty.  People’s Post reported on the incident: 'Cat Shooter’ in court on Tuesday.

Nahla has to undergo an operation because the bullet is still lodged in her body, very close to her heart, and she has torn a ligament.

Bliqees Masoet, the cat owner's partner, says they are glad that Nahla has been found. “We are happy, but she is in a very bad state and she needs to go for an operation which costs a lot of money. We have a lot on our plate now. I haven’t seen her yet, but I will go visit her after work."

Stella Ramage, Masoet’s neighbour, says they are over the moon that Nahla has been found. “They are happy, but  the challenge now is to pay for the operation. Someone found Nahla and looked after her and took her to a vet. We are grateful to all the people that were involved to make sure that she was found,” says Ramage.

Belinda Abraham from the Good Hope SPCA says its wonderful news that Nahla has been found. “The family has said they don’t have the money for an operation for Nahla. A SPCA vet is in touch with the vet where Nahla is at the moment and will see what can be done for her. Although Nahla has been found, Gericke is still facing charges of animal cruelty,” says Abraham.
