The Tygerberg Heritage Festival had its first talent competition audition at the Middestad Mall last Saturday.

“We had 23 contestants register – either as solo and group acts – for the audition with various acts, from singing, dancing, poetry, monologues and more,” said Kemi Adebayo, executive director of the festival.

“Their ages range from nine to 55 and they are from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Malawi and more,” she says.

The four winning acts will participate in the finals on Saturday 15 October from 14:00 to 17:00 at Parow High School.

“We estimate we had over 2000 attendees between 11:00 and 14:00 on Saturday, with some dropping by briefly and some staying for the whole event.

“We are absolutely pleased with our first Tygerberg’s Talent 2016 audition. The contestants all did well and put in their best with their performances.

“Our four finalists were simply fantastic and already exhibit great potential.

“I will not be surprised if our winner this year comes from Middestad Mall again!” she says.

The Middestad Mall audition winner was phenomenal opera singing duo Piano Forte, said Adebayo. “Apparently, neither has any training! This was raw, unique and unusual talent from both.”

Adebayo said she hoped other local businesses in the Tygerberg area will support events like this.

“No doubt the Tygerberg Heritage Festival is helping to contribute in its own little way to building bridges between communities, celebrating cultural diversity, promoting racial reconciliation, encouraging collaborations, stimulatinge conversations, and connecting people.”V Contact Kemi on 079 084 2987 or 021 837 1823 for more information, or visit the festival’s Facebook page.
