Old Woodlands residents now have their own association, ready to be a voice for them.

On Tuesday last week, about 40 people met to elect a committee and form a ratepayers’ association for the area.

The association will not replace the Woodlands Ratepayers’ Association but will rather work with it to tackle issues specific to its area.

The area comprises about 300 households and is bordered by Eros Way, Ajax Way and Daphne Crescent and along Highlands Drive.

Michael Jacobs, who is on the ward 75 committee, facilitated the meeting.

He says the new organisation will deal with different issues than that of the Woodlands association. It should not be seen as an elitist association, he says.

The election was also facilitated by Rashmiya Lucas of the Collville Residents’ Association.

The residents elected Wadeeah Fisher as chairperson, Vernon Parsotani as deputy chairperson, Liesle Ruiters as secretary, Venesse Williams as deputy secretary, Lionel Johnson as treasurer and Andrew van Wyk as public relations officer.
